COTD = shit
I wish Sergio was stil alive. Jalopnik needs Mergio more than ever

More effort was exerted by you writing the comment than by the person who chose it for COTD.

Amen to that.

Does the above count as “trying”? LOL

huh, I’ve been bestowed with this honour numerous times in the past, but I realise now that I rarely even comment on the front page.
I should get back out there, looks like the competition is less fierce :D

Ha! There are still plenty of great comments, but with $kay gone, it’s definitely less of a thing.
I’ve won 2 or 3 times in the past as well. Always fun to chime in on the FP with some snark, a pun, or occasionally, an actual
well-thought-out comment.

Nope, and congratulations!!!

Well thought-out comments always lose to some kind of clever wordplay. I mean, why have a meaningful dialogue when you can make the editors chuckle with some pun about beans?

The problem with actual, good comments is that they take a while, first for full reading & comprehension, and then for composition. By the time you’ve written it all out, there are a hundred earlier comments to contend against. Kinja does favor longer comments (with pictures) some, but sometimes they still get lost in the shuffle (same with great quality posts on OPPO).
I slander
no good (or especially bad)
pun, though.

I have no real objection with puns (my wife hates them) or beans, but yeah there’s no energy really for a lengthy and detailed piece of comment.
But yeah, that’s the problem in a nutshell

Definitely a questionable ROI
